The project Stages was created in 2011 at Root Division in San Francisco for the exhibition “Over My Dead Body.” George Pfau, Hannah Ireland, Welly Fletcher, and Amanda Curreri worked as a collaborative team to create this site-specific installation. An intimate hideaway was built on top of the gallery’s existing stage and filled with gray pillows. The space allowed visitors to experience each others company at close range. Within this intimate zone, emerging from beneath the red rug, were the sounds of snoring and fanfare. Surrounding this space was a bench which allowed visitors to sit and survey the rest of the gallery.
